Sage Against the Machine
Decolonization, Assimilation, Acculturation, Adulteration
Native people. Indigenous. Onkwehonwe, the original people of this continent.
We have a bright future ahead of us, as we clamber out of the rubble of history and into our bright new future. We build that future now, the choices we make today will carry forward, and determine if our communities in our cultures survive, thrive, or wither away into nothing.
Throughout the world, the local news has been crumbling, destroyed by social media, and the internet. The transition to digital distribution isn't always successful, and the local paper of Akwesasne, Indian Time, has fallen, after 40 years of dedication.
Today we are joined by the last editor Margie Skidders Kaniehtonkie to talk about the paper and journalism. Part of a free society is an independent reporter, watching, researching, applying a critical eye, and informing the people. Many forces are attacking that institution, but maybe we can find another way.
You can find the last issue at Indiantime.net
