Saturday May 30, 2026
It's election season here on the reservation, and many people have opinions about leadership and change and things like that, and our guest has thrown his name into the running for the position of sub chief of the Saint Regis Tribal Council
Dr Sarah Konwahahawi Herne, one of the hosts of our sister podcast Womens Dance joins the conversation and helps shine a light on politics and some of the biggest issues facing us.
Trent David spent some time with us last year in the midst of the land claim controversy surrounding our community, and following that episode, our good friend direct actioned himself to a bench at the Akwesasne Casino in protest.
Now, once again, he's attempting to make change and do things a bit differently. He's running for the tribal council and he'll tell us all about it on this episode of Sage Against the Machine Podcast.

Sage Against The Machine Episode 41 - Councillor
Wednesday Mar 04, 2026
Wednesday Mar 04, 2026
Today we welcome Scott Peters to Sage to share his experience as and elected Chief for The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne in the District of Tsisnaihne. Our frank and earnest discussion may shed some light on the workings of The Northern Portion of Akwesasne, and what it takes to get our needs met.
Some of us at Sage have been known to be hypercritical of the elective bodies placed in our communities.
In Haudenosaunee Country tension has existed between Originalist/Traditionalist versus Western Influenced and outright Imposed elective systems. The tale of imperialism is as old as recorded history.
While we may have a difference in ideology the fact remains these organizations administer vital services that Akwesasronon rely upon, interface with the powers that be, and employ hundreds of our friends and family who work diligently to keep the lights on each and every day.
Many thanks to Scott for spending the time to talk with us and for trying to keep up the good fight.
