Decolonization, Assimilation, Acculturation, Adulteration
Native people. Indigenous. Onkwehonwe, the original people of this continent.
We have a bright future ahead of us, as we clamber out of the rubble of history and into our bright new future. We build that future now, the choices we make today will carry forward, and determine if our communities in our cultures survive, thrive, or wither away into nothing.
Niche as hell? Absolutely. However, we share many of the same challenges, and all peoples might be able to glean a nugget of truth, an ember of an idea, to spread into a flame.
Today we welcome creator, producer, reporter, and on-air personality: Regan Jacobs. Regan hails from Kahnawake, Mohawk Nation Territory, and for over a decade has operated Akwesasne TV, a news, television and content creation organization she founded in Akwesasne.
Regan has a chat with the fellas regarding her recent departure from Akwesasne TV, and from the communications department of the local council, her dedication to the 4th estate and the importance of independent and local media. We have a fantastic discussion ranging over her decades of experience, and we hope you enjoy.
Follow our feed for more discussions in the future.

Change is constant, and times they are a changin' politically, socially and economically. Our guest today believes she is one of the people to help our community weather the oncoming challenges, many of which may be more unfriendly towards our community, our nation, and all Onkwehonwe, the Original People of this land.
Beverly Cook has acted in the role of elected leadership of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council for a decade. She has championed many causes, including protecting and upholding The Indigenous Child Welfare Act, bringing awareness to mental health, trauma informed care, and presides over the recent Land Claim settlement of the 1794 treaty.
As a long time incumbent we are able to get deeper in the weeds on some of the matters we have discussed here on Sage, and get a point of view from someone on the inside.

We have a bright future ahead of us, as we clamber out of the rubble of history and into our bright new future. We build that future now, the choices we make today will carry forward, and determine if our communities in our cultures survive, thrive, or wither away into nothing.
There are a variety of ways to achieve societal goals, and among the cornerstones of a functioning free society is fair and consistent dispute resolution.
While here at SATM we hearken to homegrown solutions founded in indigenous lifeways, whatever that means, we have a parchwork of semi-functional organizations doing things each and everyday, whether it is our preferred construct or not, these organizations exist and act.
One of those systems is a tribal Court, it is operating, adjudicating, deciding, vindicating and even punishing human beings on the daily. Every court requires a judge, and many in Akwesasne are unhappy with the current one.
With the coming election, the job is up for grabs, and our guest today hopes to be picked for that seat. We have a fabulous conversation with a sharp woman who has led an interesting life, and returns to potentially serve our community.
Find her on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/169hRqSg1V/
She also has a podcast! You can listen right here on Spotify
